Measuring Our Impact
Measuring results is at the heart of our theory of change. PVN plans to remain small and retain its focus of testing solutions in our partner schools. In order to move the needle for young people in urban slums across Honduras, we need to know whether what we do works. And, once we know, we need a channel to share our work with our partners.
One reason we chose to begin our work with schools in Colonia Villanueva was because of the area’s baseline data. Colonia Villanueva is unique in having rich baseline studies at the household level in communities and at the student level in schools. The depth of this initial data, collected by development partners in Honduras, allows us to benchmark our work and understand how our partner schools compare to others in the region.
As we expand our activities to new schools in 2011, we will devote even more attention to evaluating our results. We plan to partner with experts in Honduras to develop a more robust framework for monitoring the effectiveness of our work and assessing our long-term impact.

PVN conducts first outdoor leadership training with students and teachers in partnership with the Asocacion Nacional de Ex-becarios para el Desarrollo de Honduras, a Kellogg Foundation-supported NGO, working in positive youth development and education in Honduras. + Read more
In a national park near Tegucigalpa, PVN facilitated a ropes course and outdoor leadership activities with a group of scholarship recipients and teachers. The activity tests a component of a curriculum that PVN is supporting in 2010, to build momentum for extracurricular activities in schools for the urban poor. - Close

Teacher committees work jointly with PVN to select recipients, typically beginning in fourth grade, to receive scholarships for the remainder of their schooling. Our scholarships are based on a mix of financial need and academic potential. We view our scholarship program as a tool to train our teacher committees in leadership, team-building, and financial planning, as a pathway for these groups to become agents of change within their schools. - Close
